First, please follow us on Facebook and Instagram @capecodtriathlon for the most up-to-date information. However, right now, things are a little slow due to Covid and lack of group training options for us triathletes here on Cape Cod. We can’t wait to see you all in person in 2021. Cross fingers for a great start to the race season!
MARCH 2021 NEWSLETTER
Happy March, fellow Tri Club Members!
It’s been an interesting 365+ days to be a triathlete. Canceled races, closed pools, and a lack of group training opportunities have made it a challenge to keep up with swimming, biking, and running.
Now we can see a light at the end of the tunnel and we want to congratulate everyone for making it to this point. No matter where you are in your training, there is plenty of time to get ready for the tri season (and we are optimistic that races WILL happen this summer!).
If you did not see the post on social media, I am the new director of the Tri Club for the 2021 season. We used to have a director, then we moved to a steering committee model. The steering committee decided to combine these two models for the upcoming season. I will be the director, but the steering committee will still continue with all of their amazing work, like coordinating practice tris (when allowed), ordering uniforms (see below), planning fun challenges, and keeping track of memberships, just to name a few jobs. In case you did not know, these awesome volunteers are: Aliciia C Furrer, Andy Scherding, Geof Newton, Nelly Lyons, Scott Brown, Jason Lilly, Sam Crowell, Chris Crema, and Charlotte Johnson.
Please reach out to me with any ideas, comments, or questions at amyewoods@mac.com. Also make sure to follow us on Facebook and Instagram or check out our newly redesigned website at capecodtriathlon.org.
Happy training!

2 rode more than 500 miles in the month;
10 more than 300 miles;
20 more than 200 miles, and;
34 rode more than 100 miles.
Top 5 finishers:
1. Eric Wheeler 487 points
2. Gary Cundiff 481 points
2. Amy Woods 465 points
4. Steve Furrer 460 points
5. Scott Brown 435 points
KOM Jersey goes to Steven Furrer who climbed over 39,000 feet.
Great job by all. Twenty eight members covered at least 56 miles in a week. Ten covered more than 112 in one week (one member in one workout).
Each of the winners will get a crazy pair of cycling socks!
Spring Challenge: Spring into Tri Season: Jason Lilly
Warm weather is on its way and it’s time to start bringing swim, bike, and run into the mix. Our Spring Forward Challenge will offer one point per minute of swim, bike, or run.
60 extra points each week for at least 1 hour of swim, 1 hour of bike and 1 hour of run (need at least an hour of each).
As a club the goal is 1,500 hours of swim, bike or run from March 19th – April 19th (Patriots Day).
Prizes for the top three points totals. You must be a member of CCAC to be eligible for prize, but all Strava club members can participate in the challenge.
No need to sign up, just make sure you are posting your workouts on Strava. Jason Lilly will once again be in charge of this challenge!
CCT Race Kits and Sponsorship Opportunities:
Charlotte Johnson
Charlotte Johnson has been working with DeSoto to come up with a great new design for our race kits. There will be a one piece and a two piece option and the kit will have our new logo on it. These kits will be a bit more expensive than the last ones, but they will be good quality and comfortable. Also, we will have to move fast on these kits so we can get them in time for race season. Stay tuned!
We are working on getting sponsors again, which hopefully will offset the cost. These sponsors would be on our website and also on a podium t-shirt. We will let you know as things progress. If your company is interested in sponsoring our club, please reach out to Amy at amyewoods@mac.com.
SOS Cape Cod Tri Recon Trail Runs: Andy Scherding
For people doing SOS Cape Cod Tri this year (or hope to race it in a future year) Andy will be leading 3 morning reconnaissance trail runs over these weekends: March 27th, April 3rd and 10th. Exact days dependent on weather. 5-6 miles each run, 10 m/m pace. Spectacular views. Contact Andy at andy@neeevents.com to be on the email thread.
Got Zwift?
If you are riding on your trainer inside and you have Zwift, make sure to follow your fellow triathletes and join some of our meet ups. Anyone can make a meet up, so if you are riding, post on Facebook and see who can make it! Zwift meet-ups are also being staged by our local race company, New England Endurance Events. Follow the Cape Cod Tri Facebook page for notifications, or receive emails a few days in advance of each event if you contact Amy.
